New connectionsCreating a rich network of streets and spaces which connects all the local arts organisations and creates a vibrant sense of place, from the city centre all the way up to the canalside.

The Phoenix Flowers already provide a new successful link through the Garscube underpass, overcoming the barrier of the M8 and improving links with the city. Now new connections are needed.

With the growth of an evolving arts cluster at Speirs Locks desire lines between Glasgow city centre and the canalside are becoming stronger.

7N Architects have been commissioned to look at ways to build upon the success of the Garscube Underpass, linking the incoming arts organisations at Speirs Locks back to the Cultural Quarter within Glasgow's city centre and improving the physical and perceived connections between the two.

This also provides an opportunity to realise the hidden asset of Renfrew Street as a vibrant cultural quarter, just a stone's throw from Glasgow's renowned Style Mile.
Wayfinding and public realm have been developed by 7N to raise the profile of Renfrew St and Speirs Locks as lively, flourishing arts destinations, harnessing the collective strength of the many cultural institutions in the area.

This is a long-term vision that can evolve over time, responding to development opportunities as they arise to unlock the civic and economic potential of the wider area.
